The connect is lenses. A is a simple magnifying glass, B are normal spectacles and C is Ben Franklin who invented bifocals.

The third pic seems to be of Ben Franklin and the first two feature lenses and reading...

my guess is the invention of the spectacles.
The connect is spectacles/corrective lenses.
1 is a reading stone (one of the earliest forms of reading aids)
2 is a portrait by Tommaso da Modena (1352AD) , the earliest pictorial evidence for the use of eyeglasses)
3 is Ben Franklin, the inventor of bifocals.
