Question for August 13th - Dev

X is a term used to describe a tactic that has been employed in such diverse situations as central Indian farmers dealing with debt issues and the Green Card process backlog in the US. Chronologically, the first use of X was to tackle illegal eviction, but not in real life. What is X?

X = Lottery?? That's what they do for some Green Cards and H1Bs. May be they use it for the other things too...

"Gandhigiri".

The first use of this term was in the movie "Lage Raho Munnabhai", in which the female lead loses her house to illegal eviction and then the protagonist helps her reclaim it using Gandhigiri.

The aspect of sending flowers to your enemies was used in the two situations in the question.

In July 2007, piles of flowers were sent to the USCIS office by individuals caught in a green card backlog. As a direct consequence, the USCIS announced that it will accept applications from foreign professionals seeking permanent residency through an expedited process, reversing its earlier decision.

In 2006, about 2,000 debt-stricken farmers in India's cotton growing Vidarbha region resorted to a protest with flowers to persuade a bank to disperse loans.

Rahul came the closest in answering the question. Nikhil's answer was good, but did not fit in the first use of the term.

I feel that an apology is due for posting a malformed/terse question. So I'm sorry. I'll try to do better next time.
