My guess is that B is Sanjay Gandhi, Y is Maruti Suzuki 800. And A is someone from the Suzuki clan, who actually made the car.

B is Hitler, Y is Volkswagen. A could be Porsche/Ford. Best I can come up without Googling.

I know Volkswagen in German means people's car
So my guess is A is Hitler and Y is the VW Beatle? No clue who B is (how can there be two B's in this world?) :D

A is Hitler, who wanted a car for the masses, and this led to the production of Beetle, making Y Volkswagen. B is Nehru (wild guess).

Most got some part of the Q right. Hari cracked it!

The clue is in the Q. People's car == Volkswagen in German. Hitler is the notorious German we all know about.

A is Hitler and Y is Volkswagen.

B is the great Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi! He invited VW first..., of course many years after siphoning funds from the Govt., however Suzuki finally ended up making the deal with the Indian Govt.

Cheers!
Sanjit.
